Anthropic Mythos Model Pushes Crypto Firms to Rethink Security Beyond Smart Contracts

Anthropic Mythos model concerns are now rippling through the crypto industry as security teams look beyond smart contracts and toward the deeper infrastructure that keeps blockchain platforms running. The new AI system is being described as a tool that can uncover multi-step exploit chains and hidden weaknesses across systems that traditional audits often miss.

Crypto security focus is shifting beyond smart contracts

According to CoinDesk, DeFi projects have historically centered their defenses on smart contract audits, known vulnerabilities, and common exploit patterns. But the arrival of Anthropic’s Mythos model is shifting attention toward the infrastructure layer, including key management systems, signing services, bridges, oracle networks, and the cryptographic connections between them.

That matters because these systems are often less visible than the code that powers DeFi applications themselves. They also sit outside the scope of many standard audits, which means AI tools that can trace relationships across multiple layers may surface risks that human reviewers would not easily catch in time.

Why Mythos could widen the gap between secure and insecure protocols

The report suggests that AI will arm both attackers and defenders, but not evenly. Projects that already invest in continuous testing, infrastructure hardening, and active monitoring may gain a strong advantage. Projects that rely on one-time audits and weaker operational controls could become far more exposed.

That is especially important in DeFi, where composability allows protocols to plug into one another through shared liquidity, bridges, and data feeds. A small weakness in one component can quickly become a larger exploit path across multiple services, turning isolated bugs into system-wide threats.

AI-driven defense may become standard in blockchain security

CoinDesk’s reporting also points to a broader shift in mindset: security is no longer just about eliminating bugs before launch. It is increasingly about continuous adaptation, real-time simulation, and faster response cycles that assume vulnerabilities will keep being rediscovered and recombined.

For crypto firms, that could mean treating AI not just as a future risk, but as a current part of the security stack. If models like Mythos become widely used, the biggest difference between protocols may come down to how quickly they can test, detect, and respond before attackers do.
