iOS 27 Siri App: Standalone Chat, Synced Conversations and Compatibility

The iOS 27 Siri app gives Apple’s assistant a dedicated place on the iPhone Home Screen. The new standalone Siri app is included in the public beta and brings conversations, uploads and Apple Intelligence features into one chat-style interface. It is a notable change for an assistant that has traditionally lived inside system prompts, voice commands and individual apps.

A new home for Siri conversations

When iOS 27 arrives later this year, supported iPhones will show a Siri icon on the Home Screen. Opening it lets users start a new conversation or revisit previous exchanges. Those conversations sync through iCloud, so a user can continue the same thread across Apple devices.

The interface is designed more like a chat application than the older Siri overlay. Users can type, speak, return to past questions and upload photos or files for analysis. That makes Siri easier to use for tasks that do not fit a short voice command.

Apple Intelligence is built into the experience

The new app connects to the broader Siri AI and Apple Intelligence capabilities introduced with iOS 27. Apple says the system can answer questions using broad world knowledge, personal context and information visible on the screen. Depending on the user’s permissions and device, Siri can reference messages, emails and photos to make answers more relevant.

Screen awareness is another important part of the update. Siri can recognize what is displayed and respond to questions about it, reducing the need to copy text or switch between applications. File and photo uploads extend that same idea to documents and visual information.

Which iPhones support the Siri app?

The standalone Siri app will not be available on every iPhone. It requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence. Apple’s current compatibility list includes the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 family, iPhone 17 models, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro line.

The hardware requirement is significant because many older iPhones will receive iOS 27 without receiving the full Siri AI experience. Users will need to check the model list rather than assuming every iOS 27 device gets the new app.

Siri is becoming a cross-device workspace

Apple is also bringing the Siri app to macOS 27, iPadOS 27, visionOS 27 and watchOS 27. That makes the feature more than a new iPhone icon. Apple is positioning Siri as a continuing conversation that can move between devices, while iCloud keeps the thread available.

The public beta is still a work in progress, and some Apple Intelligence features may change before the final release. Even so, the standalone app gives Siri a clearer identity. Instead of appearing only when summoned, Siri is becoming a visible destination for questions, files and ongoing AI-assisted work.

Privacy and personal context in the iOS 27 Siri app

Personal context is one of the app’s most useful features, but it also makes permission controls important. Users should review which information Siri can access and understand when a request is processed on the device or sent to cloud services. Apple will need to explain these boundaries clearly, particularly when a conversation includes private messages, email or uploaded files.

The conversation history may also require careful management. A searchable archive is convenient, but users should be able to remove individual chats, control iCloud synchronization and keep sensitive requests from appearing on every device connected to the same account.

What to check before installing the public beta

Public beta software can contain bugs, reduced battery life and incomplete features. Anyone who depends on an iPhone for work should consider waiting for the final release or installing the beta on a secondary device. A full backup is recommended before updating.

Apple may also change the interface and compatibility list before the final iOS 27 release. For continuing coverage, visit the iDigitalNews iOS section and our Apple news archive.

The standalone app also changes how people may discover Siri. A visible Home Screen icon invites users to open the assistant deliberately, browse old conversations and work with documents, rather than remembering a voice command. If Apple executes the idea well, Siri could become a regular productivity destination. If the experience is slow or inconsistent, the new icon will only make those limitations more visible.
