Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) takes underway on June 6, kicking off a four-day flurry of Apple news and updates. It’s an opportunity for developers to learn about Apple’s underlying software and engage with engineers and product designers to figure out how to best customize their apps to the devices on which they’ll operate.
It is, however, Apple’s most important stage of the year. While Apple holds multiple announcement events throughout the year, this is perhaps the most important, since it allows the Cupertino-based tech titan to communicate directly to its most loyal users, the people who create the software. As a result, WWDC is a major arena for showcasing new software features, creativity tools, and hardware items, among other things.
Apple is typically tight-lipped about what will be presented during the event, but the rumor mill has been working overtime to figure out what could be announced.
What is WWDC?
The Apple Worldwide Developers’ Conference, abbreviated as WWDC and sometimes referred to as Dub-dub for extra short, is a four-day trade expo dedicated to all things Apple. It’s Apple’s chance to provide specific direction to the army of developers creating apps and tools for everything from iPad to Apple Watch, from Apple software to the Macs and other devices that run it.
The conference includes events for the general public, such as the keynote (which usually includes major product announcements) and the Platforms State of the Union, but the bulk of the show is geared toward the developer community, with breakout sessions and panels addressing software specifics that won’t be of much interest to those who aren’t actively working on app development.
WWDC has been an online-only event since the commencement of COVID-19 lockdowns, and the 2022 show will be as well. The WWDC keynote and Platforms State of the Union will be screened in person at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters for a select group of developers and reporters.
When will the WWDC be held in 2022? Dates, Times, and Events
WWDC takes place from June 6 to June 10. The Apple Developer website and the Apple Developer app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV will be open to the general public on Monday, but the majority of the conference events will be available only to developers through the Apple Developer website or immediately through the Apple Developer app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.
Apart from Apple Developer Website, Apple has a YouTube live stream where viewers can sign up to get a reminder when the event begins.
The conference begins on day one with a keynote session on June 6 at 11:30 p.m. Myanmar Time, which is expected to highlight the conference’s major announcements. We’ll be covering it live as it’s televised because new OS versions and the latest hardware could all get time at this event.
The second important event of the day is Apple’s Platforms State of the Union, which takes place at 2:30 a.m. Myanmar Time on June 7. This event delves deeper into the various Apple platforms, examining the most up-to-date tools and technologies accessible to developers on all of Apple’s platforms, from Apple TV and Apple Watch to iPhone and Mac.
The Apple Design Awards, the final public event of WWDC, honors select apps and games from across Apple’s many platforms. The list of finalists has already been released, and the winners will be announced on the first day of WWDC. The video broadcast will be available to the public on June 7 at 6:30 a.m. Myanmar Time.
